Hi,

thank you for stopping by!

I’m Elina Rouhiainen, a 30-year-old writer from Vantaa, Finland. I specialize in YA and insomnia. I love dogs and figure skating. I have a master’s degree in sociology from University of Helsinki.

When I was nine years old, I decided to write a novel. I got as far as writing down two sentences before giving up. Fifteen years later I debuted with Untamed (Kesytön), a paranormal romance set in Northern Finland and the first installment of the Wolf Creek Series (Susiraja). After that came Bird Circle 1: the Summer of Swallows (Väki 1: Muistojenlukija), an urban fantasy about a girl who has the ability to see other people’s memories in the shape of birds. The book won Topelius and Kuvastaja Prizesfor an outstanding YA novel and for the best Finnish fantasy novel, respectively. It was also shortlisted for the Finnish Literature Export Prize. the Bird Circle has been optioned for tv.

My other works include short stories and Willow Takes the Stage, a children’s novel commissioned by Rovio Entertainment Ltd. as a part of their Angry Birds Stella -series.

The Bird Circle is represented by Ferly.

THE WOLF CREEK

#1: Untamed (originally published in June 2012)

The Untamed is a paranormal romance set in northern Finland. Raisa is an ambitious young artist living in downtown Helsinki. When her mother dies in an accident, she has to move to a rural village in the middle of nowhere to live with her uncle. She soon realizes that she is living among werewolves. Gradually, Raisa starts to adjust to life in the extraordinary village. At the same time, she dreams of Mikael, the most popular boy in school. He has eyes that change colour; eyes that seem to follow Raisa increasingly often. But what are Mikael and the other villagers hiding? And why was Raisa sent here, to the middle of nowhere? Secrets are about to be revealed. The Untamed is the first installment of The Territory of the Wolf series by the talented young author Elina Rouhiainen. The unforgettable love story of The Untamed is as hooking as the Twilight series, but in its own unique way.

#2: Endangered (June 2013)

This Finnish paranormal romance series outshines all its foreign predecessors. Raisa, from the city, didn’t realise how much her life would change when she moved to Hukkavaara. Raisa has tried her best to forget about the events that took place. But her great love, Michael, is not easy to forget. Hukkavaara has not revealed all of its secrets yet, and the wolves are calling her. If you can’t trust your own feelings – who can you trust?

#3: Hunted (September 2014)

Mikael, the new leader of the pack at Wolf Creek and the love of Raisa’s life, has left, and Raisa gets off to a disastrous start at the Academy of Fine Arts. But when she has to track down her brother Mitja, she is thrown into an adventure on a mystical Greek island. Finally she and her brother have to escape the island – but who is going to be there for her when she needs it the most?

#4: Traced (September 2015)

Raisa and Mikael are spending their first summer together in Helsinki. Everything feels perfect until Raisa begins to realize what everybody means when they talk about a werewolf needing another werewolf as a partner. Determined not to give up, she joins Mikael and her brother on their mission to help the pack in Wolf Creek where people scared of wolves are stirring trouble. Then Mikael is captured, kicking off a series of events that cause Raisa to discover something shocking about her own identity.
